MR BANG: From Designer to Painter
Who am I?
I’m Bang Dae-seok, and I paint. I used to work as a designer, but at some point, I decided to focus entirely on painting. Life changes direction for a lot of reasons, but for me, it really came down to one simple question, "What is it that I purely, genuinely want to do?"
What do I paint?
I explore myself. I look at what's around me, what catches my eye, and what makes me uncomfortable. Once something sticks, I start figuring out how to translate it onto a canvas. I consider the context of my subject, take its form apart, and use that to prepare my work.

How do I express it?
I try to bring a positive energy to my work. Instead of just painting reality exactly as it is, I prefer to imagine a beautiful atmosphere and capture that instead, offering a clear, uplifting visual message. I want my paintings to simply exist, naturally and beautifully.
That said, I do let my imagination run a bit wild sometimes. For my Fish Drawings series, I throw everything I’ve got into the mix — imagination, design skills, and all kinds of materials. I blend mediums, mix different elements, and even if it feels a bit strange along the way, somehow it always ends up being a fish.

What’s next?
I’ve stepped into the world of painting now. I’ll probably continue to paint until I no longer have the strength to hold a brush. My plan is to keep using my imagination, keep painting things beautifully, and steadily refine my direction. Mostly, I look forward to getting more opportunities to show my work.
