Peanut Butter Noodle

The last time I knew her, she worked in corporate.

She was one of those leaders people naturally followed. Calm, thoughtful, always with a touch of humor. Then one day, she told me she opened a small shop in Hongdae called Peanut Butter Noodle.

When I asked where the name came from, she laughed. She’d thought about using her initials, but there were already too many shops like that. A friend suggested combining things she loved instead.

Peanut butter.

Butter.

Noodles.

Only later did she notice they all happened to be six letters long. Together, they also happened to be the name of a popular Chinese dish. She’s been collecting Re-Ment miniatures for nearly twenty years. Long before opening the shop, she used to tell friends she wanted shelves full of Re-Ment like in a shop.

Eventually, she built them.

She told me how she chooses what to sell.

“If I don’t think it’s cute, I don’t bring it into the shop. Even if everyone tells me it’ll sell.”

Maybe this is what the best second acts look like. Not becoming someone new. Just becoming more yourself.

And looking around the shop, I wondered if this was also what made her such a good leader. She knew what she liked, trusted her own judgment, and never felt the need to be someone else.

Her logo is hand-sketched with pen and paper.
